Meet Greg White
Here’s my story…
Hi, my name is Greg White. I am the Creative Director and founder of geedub digital.
With over 25 years of experience across financial services, entrepreneurship, and media, I have accumulated a very unique set of skills that I put to work to serve our clients.
How unique?
It’s not every day that you will find a creative and analytical marketing leader who is also a CFA Charterholder, who has written for television, directed and produced award-winning films, and helped build and grow companies. I’ve combined these skills and built geedub digital, an agency tailor-made to help financial organizations create compelling and engaging content, communications, and advertising, to coach C-suite executives at global firms so that they shine on camera, and to help small and medium sized firms supercharge their marketing strategy as a fractional CMO.
I started my career in retail investments, first on the advisory side with CIBC Wood Gundy working for, and learning from, one of the largest financial advisors in Canada. From there, I joined my first start up in the early 2000s, a direct dealing mutual fund company, Opus 2 Direct, that was acquired by National Bank. I first learned about B2B sales under Joe Canavan at Synergy Asset Management while studying for, and earning, my CFA Charter. But there was something I needed to do.
In spite of my immense fear, I had to explore my passion for performance and left the financial industry to pursue a career as a professional actor. I had to go all in. I waited tables so I could make some money and have the freedom to get to auditions. I trained with the Second City. It wasn’t long after that that I was signed to a leading agency and booked my first of several commercials. Then I booked my first narrative project, a short film called “Milo 55160” starring Patrick McKenna (The Red Green Show, Traders) that was produced out of Norman Jewison’s Canadian Film Centre. Milo 55160 won the Genie Award (Canada’s Oscar!) for best narrative short film. I was hooked.
Every time I was on set I asked as many questions as I could, it became my film school. I learned that in order to make a great film, you needed a great story and a great team. Not too different from launching a company! So I wrote my first short script, brought a team together, and directed my first short film “Angel”. Angel went on to play at festivals, and was the winner of the Audience Favorite Award at DC Shorts in Washington, DC, and was screened at the Canadian Embassy. Not bad for a kid that didn’t go to film school and used to have crippling stage fright. That experience led me to be hired as a writer on the television quiz show “Inside the Box”, and I was promoted to head writer in its second season. I started looking towards my next challenge, making a feature film. But then, another curve ball.
I was offered a consulting opportunity to help build the case for a new public-private partnership in environmental infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates. At this time, I started to focus my attention more on producing and was very interested in the challenge. The PPP got the green light, and I was unexpectedly offered a role to move to the UAE and build up the finance and administrative functions at the company. There were five us. That company is Bee’ah, now employing thousands, and is the leading environmental services provider across the Middle East. While living in Dubai, I still needed to keep the creative juices flowing and frequently networked with creatives in the region. I used some vacation time to fly back to Canada to direct the feature film “Separation” starring Canadian Screen Award nominees Peter Stebbings and Sarah Manninen, along with Sopranos alum, Al Sapienza. I also ended up producing a short film from the UAE’s first female film director, Nayla Al Khaja. That film, “The Neighbour”, won the Special Jury Prize at the Dubai International Film Festival. I moved back to Canada in 2014 just in time for Separation to premiere on the Super Channel and Amazon Prime. I had a feature film under my belt, but I was pulled back into the start-up world.
I joined BuzzBuzzHome (now Livabl) to initially help bolster their push into the United States, and led the growth of the platform by 400%. But I had the most fun, writing, directing, and producing their most successful marketing campaign, BuzzBuzzHome Haunted. That’s when Bay Street came calling again.
Video was growing at a rapid pace, and financial firms were in need of an expert who could help executives, portfolio managers, investment bankers, and their marketing teams, create compelling video content in perfect alignment with their goals and objectives. Since starting geedub, I have also spent time as a CMO in a financial services start-up, Evermore Capital, and launched first-to-market financial products and services. I developed a powerful set of skills that I now use to help small and medium sized asset managers, financial advisors, fintechs, and other companies build lean, efficient, and scalable marketing ecosystems to help their organizations grow and thrive.
I can help financial executives shine on camera, I can help marketing teams understand the language of finance, I can help entrepreneurs build their businesses, and large multinationals stay agile and creative.
I can’t wait to see how I can help you.
